Today’s purchase from Desert Island comics. Printed by the shop owner, who said he asked Charles Burns if he would be interested in doing art for his small festival poster and Mr. Burns did this piece free gratis.

Clutch setlist from Brooklyn Bowl. The encore was Spacegrass, Escape from the Prison Planet and a jam on that.
So this is fucking interesting. My local butcher is Graham Ave. Meats and Deli. The main man and owner there is Mike, a middle-aged Italian guy. He’s the dude on the left in the picture above. Check the Yelp video in the link to see more of him. He and his son and another two younger guys work behind the counter making the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. I’ve been going there for three years now, mostly to pick up steaks and the “Godfather” sandwiches - which is loaded with pretty much every Italian meat you can think of with spicy peppers and vinegar on fresh Italian bread. The meat is excellent, and if you go often enough they get to know you and start throwing in free sausages and steaks and such. Mike has always been a super nice guy to me, a little intense, but the man cuts a good steak to order and makes a brilliant sandwich.
I just found out that Mike is known as “Mike the Butcher” Virtuoso and he is a “soldier” for the Bonanno mafia family. He just got arrested on Tuesday on extortion charges and this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Apparently he loan sharks on the side and has been known to threaten deadbeats in the walk-in cooler at the shop. My butcher is bad-fucking-ass. Nice guy though, and a great butcher, hope to see him back behind the counter soon.
This is five blocks from my house.

Just scooped up tickets to the Wet Hot American Summer 10th Anniversary hosted by Stella. Fairly excited.
